The church in the heart of the rural village Zeveren, will once again become the point of convergence for its past, present and future inhabitants. The burial grounds are preserved and in collaboration with a group of committed locals a memorial space was designed for the site.
The existing church will be transformed into a community hall consisting of a large multifunctional space, a meeting room, a shared kitchen, storage spaces and public restrooms. Inspired by the typology of the narthex, we aim to expand inwards instead of outwards. The decorated interior of the church is preserved as much as possible while keeping various interior elements intact.
