Atop Hill

Atop Hill is a villa proposal located in Chattahoochee Hills near Atlanta, Georgia. It is part of a series of projects within a 20 acre plot of forested land. The villa is situated at the top of the hill within the plot, upon a sloping terrain and overlooking a field and pond.

The building is elevated on stilts, fully immersing the space within the abundance of trees on site. The main floor consists of a series of bedrooms, a large kitchen, dining area, living area, media room, outdoor patio and a pool with jacuzzi. Ample wall space was allocated for a large collection of paintings and sculptures.

The building is formed into a square, with a circular courtyard. Each sides of the square is allocated for specific programming, namely, living space, dining space, bedrooms and ancillary functions. Due to the circular and square shape differences, more generous spaces are generated at the corners, allowing for more unique moments to be placed, including a shaded patio, main entrance stairwell from the garage, stairs towards the landscape and stairs to the master suite.

The upper floor is composed of the master suite and garage volumes, lightly placed upon a roof garden. This is done to soften the rigidity of the strong forms on the main floor. Due to the large floor area required, doing so would also allow for the reading of the building as less massive and thus more elegant.
